Tim Tebow: so tired of him already… but he can play?

TebowNo one cares about week one preseason games. Unless Tim Tebow is playing. The hype surrounding this dude is ridiculous. His face is everywhere. Kids are imitating the “monk cut”. His jersey has been the highest selling jersey in the NFL since he was drafted. The entire universe seems to be watching every move this bible-thumping, can’t do wrong, “best college player ever” QB makes. Half the known world LOVES him.

Tebow Monk CutThe other half is annoyed (me included). Not just annoyed, however. There is real skepticism of his gee-golly attitude and his (if any) NFL skills, let alone first round draft skills. And up until yesterday, he hadn’t taken a single NFL snap. Then the later part of the third quarter of preseason game one rolls around. Orton was solid in SYSTEM X, Quinn sucked (shocking, I know), and Tebow played, well, like he was trying to win the national championship…again.

I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised, even excited to see the composure he had, and the plays that he was able to pull off. He stood back and threw the ball (funky slow release and all) accurately, he scrambled when necessary, and took off down the field like Gator fans are accustomed to seeing. It was fitting that he pulled the ball down and bulled his way into the endzone, knocking the crud out of two defenders as he bursted into the endzone like the Kool Aid man blowing up Susie Home-makers living room.

Oh yeah, he’s got things to work on (a lot). Not every play was reminiscent of Elway. He’s a far way from starting (however Quinn may be farther). But hey, maybe, just maybe, this is the guy who gets it done. I’m certainly not on the Tebow bandwagon, but (teeth gritting), he certainly seems to be on the right path. Keep it Timmy, I may yet convert. Especially if you knock Quinn right down to no. 3 on the depth chart. At least then I would be right about one of you.
